One thing that August, my dog, always do at home is looking out to the balcony. On a sunny day, her favourite spot to lay down is also here—between the indoor and outdoor. Since summer is coming soon, Yejin and I were dreaming of spending more time on our balcony. We wanted some shading to the space, yet continue to bring natural light to the interior.
The result is a slatted wooden pergola with a second layer where a canvas fabric can close to provide full shade. Constructed by my dad using cedar wood, the pergola is 6’ × 3’ and 7’4” tall. We think it’d be a perfect size for a couple outdoor chairs, a BBQ box and for August to sleep under the sun.
